| Supplemental Figure 16. Distribution of autocorrelation scores in real and randomized data. A. Autocorrelation scores were computed for the 1333 genes identified as cell cycle regulated by the Fourier analysis. Since the autocorrelation requires equally spaced points, autocorrelations were only calculated for Thy-Thy 3 and the Thy-Noc experiments as described in the Materials and Methods. The number of genes that received scores in a given range (0.3 increments of arbitrary units) is indicated. A dashed line indicates the cutoff used to filter the genes that showed transient expression. A significantly negative autocorrelation score indicates that a gene is transiently expressed (i.e. likely induced or repressed by the synchronization procedure) and is not periodic. B. Autocorrelations were calculated for data randomized in rows only. The position of the zero is indicated. Significant negative and significant positive scores are not obtained in the randomized data indicating that these scores do not occur by chance. |
